P Funk And Samba

The story of PFAS is one of rhythmic collision and high-level craftsmanship. Formed in late October 2025, the trio was born from a desire to merge two distinct musical universes: the deep, unshakable “pocket” of P-Funk and the intricate, driving pulse of Samba.
At the heart of the trio’s sound is a unique synergy between three seasoned musicians. Robert van Kooij, a drummer with a powerful background in metal, has masterfully translated that intensity into a specialization in Brazilian percussion. His ability to anchor the complex partido alto and clave rhythms with raw power provides the band’s engine. Alongside him is the versatile and groovy bassist Ray Cambridge, whose melodic sensibility and deep feel for the funk bridge the gap between the rhythm section and the guitarist Mark Eckhardt.
PFAS is not just a band; it is a laboratory of timing and grit. It is where the mathematical beauty of Brazilian syncopation meets the dirty stomp of the Funk, resulting in a sound that is as intellectually stimulating as it is physically undeniable. With a foundation of discipline and a hunger for the next musical horizon, PFAS is redefining the fusion of groove and soul for 2026.
